What is a mounting pole?
A mounting pole assures that your weather station and transmitters are located at the proper height to be free of obstruction. It provides a secure, weather-resistant support for proper readings and to make sure the sensors are unobstructed.
Davis Instruments’ weather station mounting kit is durable and made from solid materials. When it comes to choosing a mounting for your weather station, it’s recommended to purchase one that gives you confidence that it can withstand the weather and won’t collapse and damage your equipment. This mounting kit is a good choice for durability in many different weather conditions.
Where can I install a weather station and mounting pole? How high should a weather station be mounted?
NOAA standards for siting a weather station are that the temperature, humidity, and rain sensors be at 4-6 ft. (1.2-2.0 m) above the ground. For optimum NOAA siting, the anemometer should be 33 ft. (10 m) above the ground. It is not always possible to site your station perfectly; Vantage Vue sensors are all in the same unit, and Vantage Pro2 anemometer and other sensors can be mounted on the same pole. Your data will be accurate for that siting. (For weather stations for agricultural applications, they should be 6 ft. (2 m) above the surface of the ground. If you are mounting equipment on the roof, it should be 10 ft. above the highest point.)
How do you secure a mounting pole?
To secure a mounting pole to a building or fence post, you first fit the extension pole over the swaged end of the shorter pole. Use the U-bolt provided to secure the pole to the saddle. The hex nuts and washers are tightened to secure the two sections of the pole together. Use the additional sets of lag screws, flat washers, and saddles to secure the pole securely to the surface.
How do you mount a weather station on a pole?
Your weather station will come with its own hardware and instructions for mounting.Vantage Vue sensor suites are mounted to the top of a pole, while Vantage Pro2 sensor suites are mounted using a u-bolt.
